Lok Virsa, the National Institute of Folk and Traditional Heritage, was set up in 1974 to collect and protect the folk culture of Pakistan. Its Heritage Museum on the Shakarparian hills is one of the largest museums of living culture in the region.
Life-size scenes show the homes, clothes, crafts, music and festivals of every province, from Kalash dancers to Sindhi ajrak printers. The grounds host craft fairs and folk festivals through the year.
