The National Museum grew out of a 1947-48 exhibition of Indian art in London and opened in 1949. It holds over 200,000 objects covering five thousand years of South Asian history.
Its Harappan gallery holds the bronze Dancing Girl from Mohenjo-daro, and its painting galleries hold some of the finest Mughal miniatures and manuscripts anywhere.
